The lecture this week was from guest presenter Alexis Sanal. Within it, she spoke about a project she had been involved in recently which involved redeveloping a laneway with a series of light shows to emphasise the space. While I found the project interesting, I struggled to find the relevance to our design subject.
However, a similarity I could establish was the way in which the laneway created a narrative as users moved through the space. While this was an interesting idea and one which had been done before, I found the execution of this concept to be rather flimsy. Ultimately all I could see was a series of light strips which were strung about a laneway with no real determination or concept and as such I think I possibly failed to grasp the real intention behind this installation.
However, I did find the new ways of using materials interesting and so at least I took one thing away from the lecture.
One point which Alexis brought up that I liked was the ability to work at a micro and macro level at the same time as I believe this is where true architecture lies.
