The Pods - Transport systems....

Now that the structure and context are designed, the pods themselves can be designed to suit the rail network.

First I decided it was a good idea to mind map what the pods need.

From here I began to draw basic ideas of how big the scale of these pods should be. Previous exemplars of exisiting transport options are often designed for only about 5 people. However, I want to make the scale a bit larger, as it is supporting a fairly large area.

A pod that can hold 15 people seemed reasonable. I wanted to keep the overall box shape of the pods to ensure adequate head room and services above, however it wasn't very futuristic.

I began to play with the idea of a circle.

However, the conditions began to become more cramped and headspace became an issue with fixed seating along the perimeter.

The idea was to keep the box shape as it was the most functional and possibly slightly alter it to create a more interesting form.

This drawing shows the basic idea of the pod and includes connection points and double doors for easier access.

I began to play with ideas of seating and fixed furniture.

Here I began to add a scale to the pod and think about both seating and standing spaces. Included in the pod was the idea of having a suspended ceiling for electrical services.
